What is Otter Reading?

Books Otter is reading in 2013

I’ve often wondered how much I read in a year…so it’s time to find out. Everything- books, ebooks, manga, and graphic novels- will be listed here. I might say something about each item, and I might not. We’ll see what happens.

And being a librarian, I have to categorize what I read as well…you know that already.

Enjoy!

And now the year is half over, and I have read a BOATLOAD of stuff…including 51 actual adult books (novels, nonfiction, sf and fantasy) not to mention all the other categories..that’s an average of two books a week, wow. I’m amazed, to tell you the truth. We’ll see how  the second half of the year plays out.

Two months left to go. in 44 weeks, I’ve read 77 books, so down a bit from midyear…but still, I’m reading a lot (I think doing this blog is making me read more, what a good result) and pretty amazed at the numbers. More good books still to read!

And…the year is over. So how did I do?

I posted 358 times, once for each book I read. Here is what I actually read:

Children’s Book (grades 1-6) –  7
Fantasy – 38
Graphic Novel  –  103
Manga  –  24
Nonfiction  – 17
Novel  –  19
Picture Book  –  125
Science Fiction  –   5
Teen book (grades 7-12)  –  22

Of the 358 books I posted, a quarter were picture books, which I either read in storytime or read to see if I wanted to use them in storytime (and I used many of them more than once in this year, and didn’t repost them.)

Looks like my average for ‘real grown-up books’ (fantasy, sf, novels and nonfiction) my average went down in the second half of the year; I read three books every two weeks averaged over the year, rather than two a week. Still pretty good, esp. with all the other stuff thrown in. There are 24 books on the ‘books I started and didn’t finish’ page as well.

And here is where I got all this stuff:

audiobook    6 (actually, these were all library audiobooks)
borrowed from friend    7
ebook    1
I own it    58
Library    286

So obviously most of what I read is environmental- I get it from the library I work in. It’ll be interesting when I come back and do this again in 2015 to see if that changes.

And so ends My Year of Books…it was fun blogging all of this, but I’m kind of relieved to stop, too. I’ll pick this blog back up on January 1, 2015, after I’ve settled into retirement, and we’ll see what changes.

I’ll bet I don’t read anything like that number of picture books, for one thing…!

This is Otter, signing off. Thanks for reading my blog, and I’ll see you in 2015.
